What is The Helm?
The Helm is a job board built specifically for the sportfishing industry. Captains and owners can post open crew positions — captains, mates, sonar operators, stewards, and more — while crew members can browse open roles or list themselves as available for work. For crew who aren't US citizens, listings include the visa or work authorization needed for that position, giving international crew clear insight and direction on what it takes to legally work aboard US-flagged boats in the US.
Our Goal
In an industry that still relies heavily on word of mouth and informal networks to hire crew, our platform fills that gap. We provide an easy-to-use, centralized hub where captains, mates, and owners can connect directly — replacing informal networking with a seamless, streamlined hiring process.

Is it free to post a job or list myself as crew?
Yes — posting a job or listing yourself as crew is completely free.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can submit a job or crew listing without signing up. If you do create a free account, your listings are saved to it automatically and you can manage their status anytime from your account page.
I submitted without an account — how do I update my listing later?
Right after you submit, you'll get a private link to manage your listing's status (like marking a job filled or yourself booked). We'll also email that same link to you once your listing is approved, so you don't have to remember to save it.
Why does my listing say "pending review"?
Every submission is reviewed before it goes live on the public board, to keep listings genuine and well-formed. Most are approved quickly.
